"Where Are You Right Now?" is a print from my series, Ode to Charlotte Danielson. I collected research, experiences, and materials associated with my role as an educator in the public educational system, which are transformed to create a larger conversation about the engagement and disengagement of the students. The collages are layered with used and torn materials of an educator (rubrics, assessments, plans, standardized testing, charts, etc.), while the figures painted on the surface create a face for the often detached and standardized world of data that is so often at the center of important decision-making in schools. As the intricacies of their body language, behaviors, and expressions play back in my mind, I am inspired to create Ode to Charlotte Danielson to transform and reflect on the experiences.
"Where Are You Right Now?" focuses on body communication and the disengagement of our youth. As an educator, I can see the ways technology can benefit and become detrimental to the learning process. "Where Are You Right Now?" is about how our kids are plugged in and tuned out. This is a Silk Screen Print done on 8 x 10 paper.
